Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences was established on 1 st November, 1986 and is the first Health University in the Country. Recently, the University has celebrated "Silver Jubilee" having completed 25 years.

The word journal means a personal record of occurrences, experiences, and reflections kept on a regular basis, a diary or a periodical presenting articles on a particular subject. In academic use a journal refers to a serious, scholarly publication, most often peer reviewed. Open access journals are scholarly journals that are available without financial or other barriers other than access to the internet itself.

It had been a long felt need to publish a University Scientific Journal periodically to highlight the academic activities of the University, to give an opportunity for the faculty to publish their original work and to incorporate review articles of scientific importance. The content includes all the course material from Modern Medicine, Dental, Ayush, Nursing and Para Medical subjects. The Journal will make a huge impact on raising the academic standards of both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

It is not out of place to mention here that Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences has initiated several innovative measures for the improvement of PG teaching in all specialties in the colleges affiliated to the University across the State. 20 specialties in which the PG courses are being held were divided into clinical and non clinical subjects. CME programmes are being conducted in one month in clinical specialties followed by non clinical specialties in the next month. So that, 6 CMEs are conducted in a year, in both specialties. All the colleges which run PG Medical courses are divided into 6 zones and each medical college in a particular zone conducts CME by rotation. All PGs have to attend the CME concerning their specialty. In each CME, 3 topics are discussed by guest speakers, while 2 clinical cases are discussed by the Professors. Soft copies of the teaching material used in all the CMEs conducted across the State are submitted to the University for compilation to make a Year Book in that respective specialty at the end of the year. The University sends question papers simultaneously to the colleges for conducting internal theory examinations once in 6 months on the prescribed syllabus. The ultimate aim of the University is to make the PG students proficient in all three areas of PG training i.e., theory, clinical skills and knowledge about recent advances, thereby to produce quality specialists of the future.

The editorial board has been doing a commendable job working hard to meet the deadline in bringing out the journal and to maintain high academic quality of the articles published. The journal presently is in the nascent stage and I hope it gains strength with time and I wish that the Journal of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences turns out to be one of the leading journals in the country in the days ahead.
