NTRMEDNET Consortium

NTRMEDNET consortium was started in July, 2008 with a group of teaching institutions affiliated to Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences. It was started with a vision to improve the quality of education and research in the affiliated medical colleges through enhanced access to the high quality medical literature. Its main goal is to provide greater access to information at a minimum cost, which is cost-effective. The consortium started with 43 members in 2008 and reached to 273 colleges in 2013. There is remarkable increase in the E-resources subscribed by the consortium in number as well as quality of the journals. The consortium subscribes to all specialties, Modern Medicine, Dental, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Medical Lab Technology and Indian Systems of Medicine with peer reviewed journals like NEJM, Lancet, Journal of bone and joint surgery, American journal of surgical pathology, Journal of American Academy of Dermatology, Homeopathy, Clinics of North America, AORN Nursing journal etc.

The consortium conducts periodical hands on trainings, seminars, workshops, demonstrations by the publishers in the member colleges to impart knowledge and expertise in accessing E-journals and E-books.

Digital Library

The Digital Library has joined Electronic Resources in Medicine (ERMED) consortium hosted by National Medical Library, New Delhi, India and is also the member of Information Network (INFONET) consortium of UGC. Articles not only from the journals of ERMED and INFONET but also from the other data bases are being sent to the students and faculty of affiliated colleges on request. Peer reviewed articles and other medical related articles are also being sent to the members from time to time to promote research activities in the member colleges.

The website www.ntrmednet.edu.in of NTRMEDNET Consortium & Digital Library was launched. The website gives the details of all the resources of NTRMEDNET Consortium & Digital Library. In the website in addition to the holdings of the Consortium, open access journals and other related information to Medical Sciences, Library and Information Science blogs which help the librarians to acquire knowledge in latest trends in Information Technology are hosted and are being uploaded regularly.

With all these successful years of experience, NTRMEDNET Consortium is marching towards expanding its resource base and access facility to the rest of the Health Science Institutions in the state as a non-profit initiative, to promote educational and research activities.
