  Humble Beginning Top

It all began in an academic meeting of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences Digital Library, July 2011 when honorable vice chancellor Dr. I. V. Rao had expressed his desire to start a peer reviewed journal on behalf of the university to promote research among the faculty members and share the clinical knowledge globally. At that time, I was the Head, Academic Committee, Digital Library. He entrusted the journal work to me along with Prof. C. Padmavathi Devi and Prof B. V. Ramanareddy. It was a great challenging and herculean task to initiate the journal, selecting the name of the journal and deciding the publisher of the journal. Dr. I. V. Rao, Dr. M. V. Ramanamma, rector, and the then registrar of the university, Dr. T. Venugopalrao were always encouraging and supporting in framing the editorial board and advisory board. Finally with all the efforts and cooperation from my co-editors, the first issue of "Journal of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (JDRNTRUHS)" has come to light in March 2012.

  Evolution Top

My experience with JDRNTRUHS was spectacular. It was great learning experience for me. We were extremely happy to select Medknow Publications and Media Pvt. Ltd., a leading international publishing company in health sciences which gave us the easily accessible electronic online manuscript submission and peer review process. Further, when it was acquired by Wolters Kluwer, which is a well-known global authoritative source of highly regarded evidence based research information, the journal was further strengthened. The journal has attracted articles not only from the university faculty, but also from the authors of other parts of India and from other countries. The journal has become a central part of my life for last 2 years, making me work late at nights to cope up with the timely processing. We had come out with eight issues so far, all were brought out in time with strict peer review process, maintaining the high professional standards. As there was a continuous inflow of more articles from dental section, we have come out with a dental supplement with January-March 2014 issue. I have been helped throughout my journey as editor of JDRNTRUHS, by my associate editors, Prof. C. Padmavathi Devi and Prof. B. V. Ramanareddy, who have served with dedication, determination and distinction.

  Indexing Top

To get more exposure to the authors and articles published in JDRNTRUHS, the journal is indexed in many electronic data bases. Our authors are exposed globally and their articles are cited by other authors which will enhance the image of the journal and impact factor in future. Honorable vice chancellor has written to Medical Council of India (MCI) to consider JDRNTRUHS for MCI inspections and to accept the articles published by postgraduates and faculty members in this journal are recognized to their examinations and promotions respectively. We have already approached National Library of Medicine for indexing in MedLine/PubMed. We hope to achieve this soon.

  Welcome Top

I have completed 2 years of my tenure as editor of JDRNTRUHS and with this issue, I welcome our new Editor-in-chief, Prof. C. Padmavathi Devi to take over and take the journal to new heights. It is hard to leave the journal, but I am extremely happy to put it in the perfect, efficient, innovative hands of the new editor. She is currently Professor and Head, Department of Pathology, Guntur Medical College, Guntur. She is keen in research and was extremely helpful as associate editor and took care of the entire preclinical section during my tenure. Her commitment, intelligence and judgment has strengthened the journal immensely. I am sure the journal will get its due recognition during her tenure with new ideas.

  Gratitude Top

I am greatly indebted to Dr. I. V. Rao, Honorable vice-chancellor of JDRNTRUHS, who has given me the opportunity to serve the JDRNTRUHS as editor. The JDRNTRUHS was his brain child, but for him, the journal would not have taken this shape. My sincere thanks to Dr. M. V. Ramanamma, Rector, Dr. S. Babulal, The Registrar of the University and DR. G. Krishnamurthy, Academic Officer, who have helped us in the administrative affairs and for monitoring the high standard of the journal. I am immensely grateful to my editorial team, editorial advisory board members, reviewers, who have spared their time and rendered selfless service. My sincere appreciation to all the authors, who have contributed their works to JDRNTRUHS, whose patience and punctuality have helped us in increasing the standards and reputation of the journal. I express my gratitude to all the journal readers, who have given us appreciation and encouragement through their constructive remarks. I would like to specially acknowledge the efforts of Prof. C. Padmavathi Devi, who has taken care of the preclinical section skillfully and Prof. B. V. Ramanareddy, who has superbly managed the entire dental articles. Lastly my thanks and admiration to my editorial office staff, specially to Mrs. Nalini, who is extremely able in executing the instructions.
"All good things must come to an end." I hope that I have lived up to your expectations and I pass on the chair to new Editor-in-chief, Prof. C. Padmavathi Devi and wish all the best in all her future endeavors.
